Yes. You must always inform the applicant and obtain their permission before you request an Adverse Credit Check.


Consent requirements

  • You can request an Adverse Credit Check on any prospective employee, but only with their consent.

  • You must tell the applicant that you intend to carry out the check.

  • You should explain:

    • What the check is

    • Why you are doing it

    • How you will use the results


How consent works in the uCheck system

  • The uCheck system requests consent from the applicant before it processes an Adverse Credit Check.

  • Because of this, it is important that you discuss the check with the applicant in advance, so they know what to expect and can give informed consent.
