Learn how DBS Adult First Checks are requested and displayed in uCheck, typical turnaround times, and what each result (“No Match”, “Please Wait”, “Certificate Issued”) means.

Written by Ben Nicholas

On uCheck’s platform, your employer can request an Adult First Check:

  • When they first submit your DBS application, or

  • Later, if the full DBS application is taking longer than expected.

Typical Timeframes

  • Adult First results are usually returned within 24 hours.

  • In some cases, they may take up to three working days.

How Results Are Shown

When the Adult First result is available:

  • uCheck automatically adds a note to your application.- This note is posted in the Notes section of the UCheck application for easy access.

  • This note tells the employer one of the following:

  1. No Match

    • You can start work under supervision.

  2. Please Wait

    • You must not start work yet.

    • The employer must wait for the full DBS certificate before you start.

  3. Certificate Issued

    • The full DBS certificate has already been issued

    • Before the Adult First Check could be completed.
