Show applicants when and how they can request a DBS certificate reprint, the 14‑day wait, 3‑month (93‑day) limit, address constraints, and when a new application is needed.

Written by Ben Nicholas

You can request a reprint of your DBS certificate if you did not receive the original in the post.

You must follow DBS time limits and rules for reprints.

1. When You Can Request a Reprint

You can only request a DBS certificate reprint if:

  • It is within 3 months (93 days) of the date the original certificate was issued.

  • You have waited 14 days from the issue date and still not received the certificate.

If you are still within these limits, you can proceed with a reprint request.

2. When You Can Send a Reprint Request

Follow this timeline:

  1. Check the issue date of your DBS certificate.

  2. Wait 14 days from that issue date for delivery.

  3. If you have not received the certificate after 14 days, you can request a reprint.

3. How You Request a Reprint

If 14 days have passed and you have not received your DBS certificate:

  1. Email the DBS at: [email protected].

  2. Complete the DBS reprint form (available via the provided link in the original guidance).

  3. Submit the completed form as instructed by the DBS.

The DBS aims to process your reprint request within 5 working days.

4. Where the Reprinted Certificate Is Sent

The DBS will send the reprinted certificate to:

  • The current address you provided on your original application form.

Important rules:

  • You cannot change the address for a reprint.

  • If you have moved address since you submitted the application:

    • You must set up mail redirection with Royal Mail

    • Do this before you request a DBS certificate reprint.

5. When You Cannot Request a Reprint

The DBS will not issue a certificate reprint in the following situations:

  1. More than 3 months (93 days) have passed

    • It is more than 93 days since the original certificate issue date.

  2. The certificate was lost or destroyed after you received it

    • The DBS will not reprint a certificate that you previously received and then lost or damaged.

  3. A reprint has already been requested and dispatched

    • A reprint was issued and sent, but you did not receive the copy.

    • The DBS will not issue another reprint in this case.

6. What You Must Do If You Still Need a Certificate

If any of the above restrictions apply and you still need a certificate:

  • You must submit a new DBS application.

  • A reprint will not be possible.
