What an Identity Check Confirms

Written by Ben Nicholas

An Identity Check is a comprehensive background check.

It confirms two key types of identity information:

  1. Attributed identity

  2. Biographical identity

1. Attributed Identity

Attributed identity refers to identity details established at birth.

This includes:

  • Full name

  • Date of birth

These details represent who the person is as officially recorded from birth.

2. Biographical Identity

Biographical identity refers to identity details that build up and change over time.

This includes:

  • Entries on the electoral roll

  • Credit history data

Biographical identity information is difficult to falsify because it comes from multiple, long-term data sources.

Because of this, checking biographical identity:

  • Gives you an added layer of assurance about the person’s identity.

  • Helps you trust that the applicant has a consistent and traceable history.
