This article explains how you use the uCheck platform to request a DBS Check for an employee.

You will learn:

  • What you must have in place before you apply

  • What applicant information you need to collect

  • How identity checks work (manual and Digital ID)

  • How uCheck supports you through the process

1. Before You Start

You can apply for a DBS Check once your organisation is registered with uCheck.

If your organisation is already registered:

  • You can start a DBS application directly from the platform.

  • You must collect the required personal details and identity evidence from your applicant.

  • You must also have the applicant’s consent to process the check.

2. Information You Need From the Applicant

To submit a DBS Check through the uCheck platform, you must provide the applicant’s personal details, including:

  • Full current name

  • Any previous names

  • Title

  • Gender

  • Date of birth

  • Nationality

  • Country of birth

  • Birth nationality

  • Email address

  • Full five-year address history

Make sure you enter this information accurately.
Incorrect details can delay the check or return incorrect results.

3. Identity Documents You Must Obtain

You must confirm the applicant’s identity before you submit the application.

As an employer, you need to:

  • Obtain 2 identity documents from the applicant for a DBS Basic Check.

  • Obtain 3 identity documents from the applicant for a DBS Standard or Enhanced Check.

  • Use these documents to confirm that the applicant is who they claim to be.

You must follow the official DBS rules for acceptable identity documents.

4. Using Digital ID With uCheck

Instead of checking identity documents manually, you can use uCheck’s Digital ID option.

If you use Digital ID:

  • You do not need to carry out the ID check yourself.

  • A compliant digital identity process verifies the applicant’s identity for you.

In all cases, you must have the applicant’s consent before you proceed with the check.
